Community Performances
2013 Community Outreach Events.
In addition to our summer concert series, Summerfest schedules community involvement appearances year-round. Our intent is to share our passion for music with audiences who would not otherwise hear live classical music. We hope to build future audiences for classical music by introducing young children and their families to our art. Through performances at schools, libraries, community centers, and senior residential centers, Summerfest is able to reach communities and diverse audiences far beyond those of our summer concert series.
Residency Project: Summerfest Concerts at Cub Care Learning Center, Blue Springs Literacy Center, Missouri
Summerfest musicians are spending the winter months in Blue Springs, Missouri, sharing their instruments and music with young children at the Cub Care Learning Center, an early-childhood development program at the Blue Springs Literacy Center, operated by the Blue Springs School District. Cub Care Director, Rhonda Malone and Cub Care Board Member Jane Connolly worked with Mary Grant to establish this 5 month program for children ages 0-6.
One by one, Summerfest musicians visit classrooms demonstrating instruments and playing short exceprts of classical music. Children in this program have never seen or heard instruments up close.
The residency will conclude with a final performance of music by Mozart, Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, and Handel for the children and their families in the beginning of May.
Music to be performed:
J.S. Bach Badinere from Orchestral Suite No. 2 in b minor
W.A. Mozart Presto from Divertimento No. 1 in D Major
A. Vivaldi 2nd movement from “Winter” of The Four Seasons
G.F. Handel Hornpipe from “Water Music,” Suite No. 1 in F Major
